About the Survey...

Start-ups are drivers of innovation – whether as independent companies or as a part of large corporations. Their dynamic environment and the opportunity to build something brand new make them particularly attractive for top talent. However, this alone is not enough: in order to attract and retain talent and experienced candidates in the long term and at the same time align personnel costs with success, compensation plays a key role. And often with less financial leeway compared to established companies. This raises a question of central, success-critical importance:

Which compensation systems have proven successful in start-ups?

For the second time, the "Pay for Pioneers Survey" of the hkp/// group examines the current market practice as well as trends regarding compensation in start-ups and addresses the following questions:

  • How should individual incentive systems be designed in order to establish a culture of innovation in the company in the long term?
  • How do start-ups let their employees participate in the company's success?
  • What fringe benefits do start-ups typically offer?
  • How does compensation differ between corporate and stand-alone start-ups?
